AKQA-Career exploration field trip SF

December 2, 2009

The DSA class of juniors were fortunate enough to have this opportunity to take some career exploration visits. The DSA juniors class was split into three groups. One group went to Electronic Arts in redwood shores, and the other two groups went to San Francisco to bars and tone and AKQA. I was in the group that went to AKQA, which is across the street from the AT&T Park. AKQA is a media advertisement company that has won many awards for their ideas using all the latest technology. When we arrived at AKQA from a seven mile walk  along the Embarcadero we got a brief overview of what AKQA is and what they do. After that we got a tour of the building and we saw their most recent projects they were working on. When the tour was over we were split into groups and sent into different rooms with different activities for us. The activity i enjoyed most was the strategic activity, where we were asked to select a random object from the objects they laid out on  the table and to visually sell them the object and to make it look more appealing then it actually is. The object that my group chose was i believe to be a huge red scarf with feathers, and me and my groupmates made this scarf into a hat, a belt, an arm bracelete and a part of a costume. Essentiallly we made it a multi-use object. It was my favortie activity becasue my group got positive feedback and we understood exactly what we needed to do to sell the product, and we learned that this is what AKQA does. After that activity we sat down and go to know a little bit about the people who work on advertisement on websites. This was interesting because we got to see thier projects they’ve done and how they did it, and one of the main interesting things about it is that they work on websites my friends and i go on. i really enjoyed the fact that they were up-to-date and modernistic. We also got to eat pizza for lunch on their roof with a beautiful viewing of the city and bay. After that it was time to head back to bart and most of us were unsatified and wanted to stay and learn more but we were greatful to have the opportunity.
